The Miami Marathon (42Km) and Half Marathon (21km) are simultaneously held since 2002 by the beautiful boulevards and Miami sights. The competition is the right destination for professional and amateur athletes from all over the world who come together to participate in this important Miami event. For those who like to travel in search of new challenges, emotions and adrenaline, participating in marathons in different cities of the world is certainly a great privilege and unique experience.
The event is usually held in January during the winter period in the northern hemisphere, which ensures more mild and pleasant temperatures for participants, quite different from the intense heat of spring periods and Florida summer. The marathon and half-marathon starts simultaneously at 06h00 am in the American Airlines Arena in Biscayne Boulevard (Downtown Miami). The race course includes several famous avenues of the city such as the North on Biscayne Boulevard, Left Ocean Drive, Collins Avenue Right, Left Washington Avenue, Bayshore Drive, Miami Avenue, Brickell Avenue, among others and ends at Bayfront Park. Half-marathon also goes through some of these locations and ends at Point Break Away.
The first kilometers of the race offer participants an indescribable scene of Miami. As the bridges that connect the mainland and islands of the city and the Port of Miami with illuminated ships, even during the sunrise guarantee a sideshow.
The half-marathon takes place in Miami Beach, except for the first 400 meters from the start and 4 km from the end, when the runners return to Downtown by the Venetian Causeway and end the competition at Bayfront Park. The route passes through the trendy Ocean Drive, known for its Art-Deco style in some buildings architecture. The maximum time for the end of the race is 3:30 am.
Already the marathon is the first part of the route equal to the half-marathon. The two competitions are separated after twenty kilometer, when the marathon follows continues in Downtown, providing participants with the view of some of the most famous buildings in the city. The maximum time for closure of the test is 6 hours.
Event organizers offer a great support to the participants, providing hydration stations every 1.6 km, with water and Gatorade, and chemical toilets after each refueling area. Additionally, evidence has a complete medical structure and equipped to serve participants. The race also features great entertainment in more than 30 points, with musical bands that inspire and motivate runners throughout the route.
The award medal is one of the most beautiful in the world. The event was the first to have the Spinning Finisher Medal (the revolving medal) and since then the design is renewed every year, always surprising the participants with new creations.
Miami Marathon and other modes of competition
Tropical 5k Miami
Tropical Marathon 5 km start at Watson Island and ends at the MacArthur Causeway. The test is intended for participants who fall into this mode, in order to gather friends and family for a new sporting experience.
Kids Run Miami
A few weeks before the marathon is also intended for children. The test is carried out in stages, promoted by the organizers of the Miami Marathon in partnership with physical education classes from participating schools. These actions are fundamental to stimulate sports and promote health and well-being of children and adolescents to learn to adopt good habits early.
