It is official. Miami will hold its first Grand Prix in 2022. This is after Formula 1 secured a 10 year deal. Liberty Media, the owners of F1 wanted a race in a US “destination city” in order to grow the sport. In fact, Miami is the second race in the US, joining the very popular race in Texas. Formula 1 Miami will be held at Hard Rock Stadium, and will consist of a 3.36 mile track.
Although an exact date has not been announced, the president of F1 stated that it would be held during the second quarter of next year. The Miami race will be kept as a separate event from Austin. However, it could be held with the Canadian Grand Prix in June. The US is a key market for F1, and expanding to Miami is a great way to further and expand support. The city council recently approved a plan for Formula 1 Miami. In addition, the race can potentially bring around 4,000 jobs to communities in Miami.
